We did it in June with no child, so weight that accordingly. The driving is the nap. Florence to Manarola was two hours ten each way and my partner slept most of the way back without meaning to. That is your window, and you get it twice. The car cannot enter the villages. You are put down at a car park above and you walk down, or you use the local train, which is four or five minutes between each one. Monterosso is the only village where you get from the car park to sand without a staircase, and the toilets by the beach are the paid kind, 1 EUR, with someone sitting at the door. If you do one village properly, do that one. We paid 480 EUR for the two of us. Split in half it was fine. Alone it would have felt like a great deal of money.

Train! Florence to La Spezia on the regional is about 15 euros and the Cinque Terre day card was 19.50 on top. I did four villages on that and slept in a dorm in Riomaggiore for 30 a night. I know a kid changes the maths but that is still a 400 quid gap and you can nap on a train too.

Vernazza is steps. Skip it with a kid. Water was 26 degrees off Monterosso last week and you can see the bottom at four metres. Bring his own mask. Rental sizes start too big for a face that age.
