Delphi in April. Notes for anyone with knees like mine. The site runs up a slope and the path from the temple of Apollo to the stadium at the top is the steep part. 25 minutes going up, carefully. About the same coming down, which for me is the harder direction. Poles helped. Most people turn round at the theatre and I understand why. The museum sits at the bottom of the site. There is no sensible way to see it first and then climb, so do the ruins early while the stone is still cool and leave the museum for when your legs have finished. Two and a half hours from central Athens by car. The last forty minutes are switchbacks through Arachova. Anyone in the vehicle who gets carsick wants the front seat, and they should say so before you set off rather than at the second bend. We left at 7am and were at the gate by half nine. Back in Athens at 6pm. 14 degrees at the site with wind coming down off Parnassos, 22 in Athens when we got back. I kept a jacket on all morning.
