Right, layover maths. Nine hours at Heathrow in October, in at 7:20 and out again at 16:40, with a five year old. Everybody keeps telling me to get out and see something. Half of me wants to find one bench and stay on it. The bit I cannot make work is the nap. He goes down between one and two or he becomes an entirely different child, and I am not putting that child on a long haul flight. Say we are through by half eight and a car takes an hour, that leaves about three hours in town before we have to turn round. And I am serious about this one. Where do you change a child who has had an accident when you are somewhere central and not in an airport? That question has ruined more of my days out than weather ever has. Has anyone done this with a small one and got to the gate thinking it was the right call?
