Paris in October, two teenagers, 15 and 17. The older one is doing the First World War this year and the Somme day out of Paris is the plan. Four things before I book. 1. Is it honestly a day from Paris? I make it two and a half hours to Albert each way, which leaves about five hours on the ground once you allow for stopping. 2. Which stops hold a fifteen year old. I keep being pointed at Thiepval and the Newfoundland park at Beaumont Hamel. I am not doing eight cemeteries. 3. Lunch. Is there anything out there or do we carry it. 4. Footwear. October, chalk and wet grass. Boots or will trainers survive. Private car pencilled in. The coach was roughly 60 EUR a head cheaper but pick up is 6.15 at Porte Maillot and I know exactly how that morning goes in this house. For anyone who cares about the packing, I am taking the 24 litre daypack and two of the cheap clear ponchos instead of jackets. The boys will not carry a jacket once the sun comes out and I end up with both of them over my arm by eleven.
